Congrats, High School Seniors!

BoomStartup at SLCC

Nationally Recognized Startup Accelerator Kicks off 2012 Mentorship Program at Salt Lake Community College BoomStartup, a mentorship-driven investment program that helps entrepreneurs build a viable and successful business, has selected eight startup companies to participate in the class of 2012.   The companies selected will be moving into Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Business Innovation Center (MBIC) in Sandy on May 14 to kick-off the three-month curriculum. The 2012 cohort marks BoomStartup’s third class of participating companies—each of which receives $20,000 in seed capital and $80,000 of in-kind services including mentoring from expert business advisors, office space and resources at the MBIC, merchant processing services, attorney visits and more.   In total, BoomStartup will be investing between $800,000 and one million dollars in this year’s class to help entrepreneurs grow their small or medium sized business ventures.    Boom

Congrats, Neal Grover!

Congrats to Auto Collision Repair and Paint Instructor, Neal Grover, for winning a 2012 Best of State Medal for Education in the "College/University Teacher" category.  Click to enlarge. Neal Grover has been a recipient of many awards during his tenure at SLCC. Among his many awards and recognitions are the following: Distinguished SLCC Alumni Award 2007-2008 Mr. Grover has been with SLCC for over 50 years. He began at the Salt Lake Area Vocational School in 1958 as a student. Shortly after receiving a Certificate of Accomplishment in 1960, he began teaching in the automotive repair department for what was then called “Trade Tech”. He is now a nationally respected, award-winning auto collision repair technician and is a talented educator. Fulbright Farewell Reception

A farewell reception for Dr. Wang, SLCC’s first Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, was held on Wednesday, May 16. Dr. Wang spent a semester at the College, presenting on acupuncture to students at Utah institutions, meeting with Government leaders, including a recognition during the 2012 Utah Legislative Session, and exploring Utah.

SLCC Softball and Baseball Win Region 18 Tournament!

Softball: Salt Lake City- The   Salt Lake Community College Softball team claimed the Region 18 title with a 10-4 win over Southern Idaho in the Region 18 Championship game at Bruin Field.  The Bruins move to 55-7 overall this season with the win.   Salt Lake fell down early in the game with Southern Idaho striking in the first inning off a pair of SLCC errors.  However the Bruins would settle down and take the lead in the fourth with a six run inning.    Ariel Zimmerman   got the win going five innings striking out four;   MaCauley Flint   got the save going two innings with three k's.    Meagan Neilson   blasted a three run home run in the sixth inning to put Salt Lake up six with three outs remaining.    Maddy Woodard   finished the game 3 for 4 with three RBI.   The Bruins advance on to the NJCAA National tournament in St. George, UT on May 17 th   -19 th .   All Tournament Team Katie Greenberg              Snow Lianna Bajarin                    CSN Sarah Basinger
