Utah’s Colleges & Universities Launch “15 to Finish” Campaign

Initiative Encourages Students to Save Money by Completing College on Time Timed to roll out with spring semester registration at Utah’s eight public colleges and universities, the Utah System of Higher Education is launching its “15 to Finish” college completion campaign today. The campaign touts the benefits of enrolling in 15 credits a semester, which is the minimum number needed to complete an associate degree in two years or a bachelor’s degree in four years. The central message of 15 to Finish is that “time is the enemy” when it comes to college completion. The data show that full-time students are more likely to complete college on time and earn better grades than their peers who take fewer credits. The majority of college students in Utah already take between 12 and 14 credits, so by adding one more class, they can save a whole semester of tuition. Bruin Athletics: November 2013

SLCC Volleyball Wins Region 18 Championship, Earns NJCAA National Tournament Berth The SLCC Volleyball team will play for the National Championship after winning its first Region 18 Championship since the 2009 season. The Bruins will be in Casper, WY from Nov. 21-23 to battle for an NJCAA National Championship having recently completed a perfect 10-0 season in Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) play for the first time since 2007.  As outright SWAC champions, SLCC entered Region 18 Tournament play as the No. 1 overall seed. The Bruins earned hosting rights for the postseason clash and eased past Snow College in a 3-0 win on Friday at Bruin Arena in the semifinal round. SLCC then picked up a 3-0 sweep of rival North Idaho College on Saturday in the Region 18 Championship Match. SLCC Head Coach Sue Dulaney was named Region 18 Coach of the Year and freshman outside hitter Carol Grasso brought home Region 18 Player of the Year honors. Grasso was named a First Team

'A Busy Professors Guide to Sanely Flipping Your Classroom' by Dr. Cynthia Furse November 21st 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Taylorsville Redwood Campus, Student Center, Oak Room About Dr. Cynthia Furse, University of Utah Associate Vice President and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dr. Cynthia Furse is the Associate Vice President for Research at the University of Utah and a Busy Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Furse teaches / has taught electromagnetics, wireless communication, computational electromagnetics, microwave engineering, and antenna design. She began flipping her classes in 2007, and has seen a substantial increase in student satisfaction and academic success as a result. She is now regularly engaged helping other faculty flip their classes, and is currently preparing a flipped Introduction to Electrical Engineering course.
