SLCC Dance Company interpreting emotions in upcoming performance

Salt Lake Community College Dance Company is presenting a multi-media dance performance in its upcoming concert titled, “eMOTION in MOTION.” Choreographers for this event were asked to find movement that explores the many emotions humans experience. The concert includes exciting variety, with modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and samba dance. “Emotions are physical and experienced in the body, so this is a perfect theme for movement,” said Tess Boone, associate professor of dance at SLCC. “We pride ourselves in presenting a lot of variety of dance and music in our concerts, with an exciting visual component that will appeal to our digitally sophisticated audience. SLCC hosting student art show

  The fine art, photographs and illustrations of Salt Lake Community College student artists will be on display during the school’s annual Student Art Showcase. The show is open to the public April 11 to 17, 12 p.m.-6 p.m. each day in the east and west portions of the Multipurpose Room at South City Campus, 1575 South State Street, Salt Lake City. The event will also feature students’ works that use graphic design, web design, animation, mixed media and 3D designs. Submissions for the show are juried by members of the SLCC Visual Art and Design faculty and then judged by qualified members of the local art community.   For more information visit http://www.slcc.edu/visualart/art-showcase.aspx .

Congrats SLCC Campus Compact Winners!

Civically Engaged Scholar Ron Carpenter Adjunct Faculty, English Ron is committed to service-learning and highly involved with the Thayne Center for Service & Learning at Salt Lake Community College.  He has taught service-learning courses for many years and brings much experience to the field.  Ron teaches his WTRG 0990 class with the pedagogy and has modified the course for its various permutations in order to create a blueprint for other developmental class instructors seeking to implement community engaged learning for their diverse student bodies.  Ron supported the Thayne Center’s first alternative fall break focused on food insecurity.  He is also involved our 2014 HOPI Nation alternative spring break trip, bringing critical background knowledge on the culture and reservation.  Ron expands Thayne Center capacity by volunteering his time mentoring peers via our faculty development course, Service-Learning 1000 which he co-coordinates.  Ron al
