Chemistry Students’ Work Wins National Award

Salt Lake Community College’s student affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) won the Outstanding Chapter Award for 2017/2018, the highest ACS honor bestowed on student chapters. The group was also designated as a Green Chemistry Chapter and earned the ACS Green Chemistry Award for its commitment to environmentally-responsible practices and principles.

The Outstanding Chapter Award recognizes the work undertaken by SLCC chemistry students during the past year, including raising nearly $18,000 through service projects for six local charities, visiting 14 elementary schools to provide hands-on chemical demonstrations and presenting undergraduate research at the ACS National Meeting in New Orleans and participated in the Chem Demo Exchange.

SLCC will be formally recognized at the 2019 ACS national conference in Orlando, Florida, and in Chemical and Engineering News, the official ACS magazine.
