RAW COUTURE: FROM CANVAS TO CLOTH

Salt Lake Community College’s fashion Institute announces the 10th annual ‘Raw Couture: from Canvas to Cloth’ fashion show at the Museum of Natural History May 4 2013 from 6:30 to 10:00 PM. The event will feature collections from ten student designers inspired by UMFA exhibition from Bierstadt to Warhol: American Indians in The West. The Museum of Natural History is located at 301 Wakara Way in Salt Lake City.

The fashion show will be produced by SLCC’s fashion production class and will feature live music performances during the reception from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. and a series of runway shows in the Canyon Room starting at 7:15 p.m.

Some proceeds from the show will benefit the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. The Utah Cultural Celebration Center is dedicated to enriching and strengthening communities by promoting the expression of the arts, education, opportunities for economic development and the celebration of human diversity.

The fashion institute offers the latest trends, skills, and technology students need to succeed in the global economy. The program prepares students for careers in fashion design, fashion merchandising, costuming, technical apparel design and custom dressmaking.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency. “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction.
