String Audition Boot Camp
2-Day Intensive Summer Workshop with Dr. Leslie Henrie

This workshop is designed for talented high school students who wish to gain knowledge and exposure to audition procedures, learn audition preparation skills, participate in mock auditions, and receive advice on audition repertoire. Students will also learn about available scholarship opportunities from schools both local and national and make a digital recording of audition material.

Cost:              $125 per student

Workshop fee includes individual instruction, group classes on repertoire selection and preparation, a mock audition in front of peers and teachers, and a digital recording of audition material.

About the Instructor

Dr. Leslie Henrie is a local professional violinist, violist, and teacher.  She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance at the University of Utah and her Masters of Music degree in Violin Performance at the University of Kansas.  She completed her Artist’s Diploma in 2008 at Park University’s International Center for Music, and while living in Kansas City she served as associate concertmaster and principal second violin for the St. Joseph Symphony.  She completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in violin and viola performance and pedagogy at the University of Utah in 2013, where she was a teaching assistant to Dr. Hasse Borup. 

Ms. Henrie has performed and recorded extensively with many local professional organizations, including the Utah Symphony, Vivaldi Virtuosi, Utah Chamber Artists, and the LDS Church.  She was most recently featured as a soloist on Covenant Communications’ album release, “This Is The Christ,” where she premiered a new solo work written by local LDS composer and artist Marshall McDonald.  She is currently on the faculty at Salt Lake Community College, where she teaches violin, viola, and various other music courses.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says.
