Interim Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences Announced


Dr. David Richardson, former SLCC Dean of Humanities and Sciences and Vice President for Academic Affairs will return to Salt Lake Community College as Interim Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. Dr. Richardson has also served in two interim leadership roles for SLCC prior to this appointment. “His familiarity with SLCC administrative and academic processes, his expertise in change leadership and his commitment to SLCC vision, mission and goals will be invaluable during the next academic year,” said Dr. Clifton Sanders, SLCC Provost.

Dr. Paul Allen has returned to his duties as Associate Dean for Humanities/Language/Culture and ASL, a position held in the interim by Dr. Jeanine Alesch, Associate Professor for Languages. Dr. Allen will also serve as Interim Associate Dean for Psychology & Social Science replacing Spencer Blake, who has returned to faculty as Associate Professor of Psychology and Social Science.

“I would like to express sincere appreciation to Doctors Richardson, Allen, Alesch and Mr. Blake for their leadership, experience, service and sacrifice on behalf of a grateful institution,” Sanders added.


Dr. Richardson will begin his appointment on July 17, 2017.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says.
