Why working at SLCC matters:
I am very passionate about the importance of education and specifically, the role of SLCC.  I have seen first-hand the impact we can have on students improving themselves and their place in the world.  Our accessibility, smaller class sizes, and support network for students are extremely beneficial for our unique demographic of students.

Greatest professional challenge:
My greatest professional challenge is also what is really exciting about interior design right now.  As with most professions, technology is changing and improving rapidly!  Staying current on that technology and incorporating it into our curriculum means we are always changing and updating.  Our goal is to have our students enter the work force with working knowledge of the cutting edge technology and trends.  There are changes to computer aided drafting, but the really exciting things happening in the industry are the use of 3-D printing and Virtual Reality.

Greatest professional accomplishment:
Working on it!  This is my tenure year.  Looking back on the past five years, the students I hope I have impacted and the things we have accomplished in our program, is something I am very proud of.

Advice for students or others:
When mentoring students, the advice I have found to be the most helpful, is to come up with short-term and long-term goals and do one step towards those goals each week.  There are so many choices and distractions in the world, it is easy to become overwhelmed.  Checking off small steps to larger goals is beneficial to a sense of accomplishment and will ultimately pay off in the end.

Future plans:
The Interior Design Department is going through a growth spurt!  We are a small department and are working hard to provide more sections of courses to accommodate the growth we are currently seeing.  That being said, a short term and a long term goal is to develop more of our courses into online formats. That will offer more flexibility for students and professors.
A personal future plan is to get to Europe!

Family:
Husband who works in game development and design and two sons who are in their 20s.

Hobbies:
Hiking (love to hike in Southern Utah), reading and traveling.
