Representative Jordan D. Teuscher, steadfast champion of Salt Lake Community College, was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2020. Over the past four years, Representative Teuscher has developed a reputation as a highly effective lawmaker who works closely with stakeholders to collaborate on needed and thoughtful legislation. 

From the earliest days of his legislative service, Representative Teuscher has prioritized regularly visiting SLCC and understanding the needs and perspectives of the institution and its students. In 2023, he sponsored a bill to grant residency status to students who have applied for or been granted certain immigration status but are not U.S. citizens. Representative Teuscher incorporated the College’s feedback on this bill, which ultimately passed without a single vote in opposition. Since then, this legislation has helped launch the dreams of hundreds of SLCC’s immigrant students by making college affordable and over time, will benefit thousands of students across Utah.

Representative Teuscher currently serves in House leadership as Vice-Chair of the House Rules Committee and Chair of the House Ethics Committee. He is also co-chair of the Business, Economic Development, and Labor Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of both the Political Subdivisions and Business and Labor committees. 

Representative Teuscher is also deeply engaged in the community. He offers his legal expertise in support of several pro bono cases each year and donates his time to Brigham Young University’s (BYU) International Center for Law and Religion Studies. He also volunteers as a Ukrainian translator for Utah families navigating the adoption process.

Outside of his legislative and volunteer activities, Representative Teuscher works for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he leads a team that manages the organization’s negotiations and contracts. He holds bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from BYU and has won several prestigious awards recognizing his commitment to Utah’s citizens, including the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce Business Champion Award and the Council of State Governments 20 Under 40 Award.

SLCC Alumnus and U.S. Diplomat to Speak at 2025 Commencement

Salt Lake Community College’s 2025 Commencement speaker Branigan Knowlton will share his perspectives drawn from a 12-year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. In serving his country, Knowlton has honed his foreign relations and diplomacy skills in Hong Kong, Mexico, Colombia and Italy. Knowlton is also a proud Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) alumnus (2002).     Knowlton currently serves at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Before reporting to the embassy, he was detailed to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as part of the Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellowship program. In Bogotá, Knowlton worked for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and in Hermosillo, Mexico, he worked for the Bureau of Consular Affairs.
