SLCC Receives U.S. Department of Labor Geospatial Grant

SLCC is a partner in the $20 million National Information, Security, and Geospatial Technology Consortium. Funded by a U.S. Department of Labor grant, this partnership will help the College train people for new and emerging jobs in geospatial technologies.

As a partner in grant, SLCC is part of a national consortium including colleges from six states. The grant’s express mission is to offer services to individuals who are seeking training and job placement assistance in industries using geospatial technologies.

Careers are available in many industries including development planning, business and marketing, education, defense, intelligence, utilities, natural resources sciences, and public safety.

Students enrolled in the grant receive: mentoring from industry professionals, career counseling, individualized academic counseling, specialized tutoring, and virtual internships.

The grant’s lead applicant, Collin College in Texas, invited Salt Lake Community College to participate because of SLCC’s nationally recognized geospatial technology programs.
