SLCC’s Grand Theatre presents The Four King Cousins concert

The Grand Theatre at Salt Lake Community College will present the Utah premiere of Harmony is King: A Salute to the Great Songs of the 1960s & 70s, starring The Four King Cousins, singing stars of classic TV’s King Family Show and daughters of Utah’s own big band-era greats, Grammy-nominees The King Sisters. The Harmony is King concert will mark the harmonizing quartet’s first area appearance since they joined over 100 members of the King Family in a rousing performance at the Utah Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1997. This concert celebrates the unforgettable songs and legendary composers of 1960’s and 1970’s, including pop hits like “God Only Knows,” “I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love,” and “The Way We Were,” all performed in the group’s signature four-part harmony. This multimedia concert experience filled with vintage film clips and rare family home movies also features a salute to The King Sisters and their record hits including “In the Mood,” “Route 66” and “Imagination.” Acclaimed musician Troy Dexter will lead the Cousins’ band and serve as musical director for the show.

“We are thrilled to bring our show to Utah,” noted King Cousin’s lead singer Tina Cole, “The King Family got its start here when we performed a benefit to build the then new Cougar stadium at BYU. That performance led to our ABC-TV series, which celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, so it’s a homecoming of sorts for our family.” Harmony is King makes its Utah debut on the heels of several acclaimed performances in California. Following their most recent concert, The Wall Street Journal’s jazz critic Will Friedwald noted the King Cousins are “one of the best vocal harmony groups I’ve ever heard.”

The Four King Cousins were a staple on TV’s The King Family Show and their classic holiday television specials. Their most recent retrospective CD “More Today Than Yesterday” is available now. The Four King Cousins will also be featured in the PBS My Music special “Sister Acts,” airing nationwide this June and hosted by the groups’ lead singer Tina Cole, star of the second longest running sitcom in TV history My Three Sons.

SLCC Alumnus and U.S. Diplomat to Speak at 2025 Commencement

Salt Lake Community College’s 2025 Commencement speaker Branigan Knowlton will share his perspectives drawn from a 12-year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. In serving his country, Knowlton has honed his foreign relations and diplomacy skills in Hong Kong, Mexico, Colombia and Italy. Knowlton is also a proud Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) alumnus (2002).     Knowlton currently serves at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Before reporting to the embassy, he was detailed to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as part of the Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellowship program. In Bogotá, Knowlton worked for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and in Hermosillo, Mexico, he worked for the Bureau of Consular Affairs.
