Reopening SLCC


With most of Utah’s move to yellow status (low-risk) as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic, many restrictions are being lifted across the state. As a result, SLCC is also making adjustments to its operations. Starting June 1, SLCC will officially move to yellow status, and throughout the month, the following changes will implemented:

 

·      All campus buildings will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 1 to July 31. Evening hours will resume July 31.

·      Employees whose job responsibilities cannot be done remotely will be prioritized in returning to work starting June 8.

·      Department directors are establishing plans to safely and reasonably begin bringing people back to the workplace for on-campus, face-to-face operations at all SLCC locations starting June 8. Check with your supervisor for details.

·      Reasonable precautions will be implemented to keep employees and students safe while at SLCC. This includes frequent cleaning and sanitation of shared surfaces and availability of cleaning and sanitization supplies for office use. Face coverings or masks should be worn when social distancing is difficult to maintain, and the college will ensure face coverings are available for all employees.

·      Events and group gatherings will be planned only if organizational oversight can be provided that ensures distancing and sanitation guidelines are followed.

·      Associate deans are currently establishing plans to safely and reasonably reopen lab-based courses and make-up courses from spring 2020 semester. These plans will include any credit or non-credit academic course activity between June 1 and August 8.

·      When students return to campus, they should sit 6-feet apart, when possible. When not possible, face coverings should be worn. Instructors must record attendance in Canvas and record students’ assigned seat locations for two months to support contact tracing. For student experiences without Canvas or without formal seating, a method for tracking all students and employees in the spaces will be required.

 

Accommodations can be made for high-risk employees and for employees living with high-risk individuals.

 

As always, the college encourages everyone to use reasonable precautions (hand washing, distancing, use of face coverings, cleaning workspaces, etc.) and both students and employees should regularly self-check for COVID symptoms. If anyone is ill, they should stay home and not return to campus until they are feeling better. COVID-19 testing and results must also be reported via SLCC’s online reporting portal to enable contact tracing.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation.
