SLCC Volleyball Awarded AVCA Team Academic Award

Bruins Earn Program’s First AVCA Academic Honor

The 2012-2013 SLCC Volleyball team has been given the Academic Team Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The honor marks the first time in program history that SLCC Volleyball has received the award.

"I am so proud of our Volleyball team players for their commitment to academic and athletic excellence," said SLCC athletic director Norma Carr.  "The traits that make them great on the court—work ethic, intelligence and ambition—translate to the classroom. Everyone in this department at SLCC works to support our athletes, and academic achievement will serve our students well and is what I’m most excited to see.”

Students on the Bruin Volleyball team earned a collective grade point average (GPA) of 3.29. Desiree Bradshaw and Maddie Bushman led the team academically, with both also earning the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement. The pair were also named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-Americans.

Bradshaw, a freshman, earned a 3.91 GPA and Bushman finished her sophomore year with a 3.89 GPA.
