New SLCC Archives Exhibit at the Markosian Library!

Ever wondered what President Nelson’s gavel looked like or why you occasionally see odd graphics around campus, like an odd circular design a man and a woman in blue and gold that looks like it’s from the 1950’s? Even if you have never wondered, the SLCC Archives currently has a display on the main floor of the Taylorsville-Redwood Campus Library that is filled with objects from our memorabilia collection that will make you do a double-take.

From Alumni Association commemorative items such as stadium seats with a fierce Bruin Bear Logo, decorative Bruin license plate frames and sunglasses to more historical items such as President Caranahan’s commemorative mug, these physical objects provide vignettes of the different transformations that SLCC has gone through since the College’s creation.

Other interesting aspects of the display include mugs and other materials from past marketing campaigns mixed in with a large UTT Logo (from when SLCC was known as Utah Trade Tech) that looks like a gigantic bottle cap, traditional items such as Frisbees and printed mugs, as well as objects ranging to the nearly bizarre, such as a commemorative toilet seat! All these materials represent the colorful past of the College and its students.

Be sure to stop by the main floor of the Redwood Library and check out this one of a kind exhibit of memorabilia highlighting student life and special events over the years at SLCC!

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency. “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Because we are using your vehicles for training purposes, we offer members of the College discounts on parts and labor. Parts are at our cost plus 15% and the service fee is $20 per hour based on industry time standards (if the industry assigns an hour for a repair, that's all you're charged for, regardless of how much time it takes the student).
