The first-ever NJCAA men's and women's soccer teams at Salt Lake Community College were introduced during halftime of the matchup between Real Salt Lake and Dallas Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium. Both teams are at home Sep. 30 and Oct. 1 in Taylorsville playing against the College of Southern Nevada. For more information about Bruins soccer and other sports, click here .

Salt Lake Community College has been awarded a $2.23 million grant under the Department of Education's hallmark Strengthening Institutions program. This grant will support strategic initiatives in the School of Science, Mathematics and Engineering, including the remodel of the Math, Science & Technology Resource Center, the creation of analytic systems to study critical attrition points in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, and the large-scale implementation of best-practice support services for STEM students.  An increasing number of students enter SLCC each year underprepared for college level math and science. Salt Lake Community College’s 2016 Tanner Forum on Social Ethics is hosting Robert Reich Oct. 19, 7-8:30 p.m. on the SLCC South City Campus in the Grand Theatre, 1575 S. State Street, Salt Lake City. Salt Lake Community College, as part of its Reading Series program, will host a performance by poet Danez Smith Sept. 22, 7 p.m. in the Atrium at SLCC’s South City Campus, 1575 S. State Street, Salt Lake City. Smith was featured in American Academy of Poet’s Emerging Writers Series by National Book Award finalist Patricia Smith. Smith's website states, “Like her, he bridges the poetics of the stage to that of the page. Danez’s work transcends arbitrary boundaries to present work that is gripping, dismantling of oppression constructs and striking on the human heart. Salt Lake Community College received a $1.23 million TRIO Talent Search award from the Department of Education.  “Talent Search will directly support SLCC’s goals around strategic enrollment and student outreach, especially among underrepresented students, while strengthening ties with community partners,” said Nicole Omer, Director of Sponsored Projects at SLCC. “Spanning five years, the funds will strengthen SLCC’s efforts to support low-income and first generation secondary students toward completing high school and enrolling in college.
