Women’s Basketball Makes History with NJCAA Final Four Spot

After a 12-point deficit in the first half, No. 5 Salt Lake Community College fought back to defeat No. 13 Jones County 81-75 in the NJCAA National Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament Elite Eight showdown. The Bruins have advanced to the Final Four for the first time in school history.


Jones County came out fast in the first half pushing their lead over the Bruins to as many as 12 points. But Salt Lake would not stop fighting. The Bruins came out strong after half and slowly chipped away at the Bobcats lead. SLCC was able to cut the lead to six at the end of the third, with the score 62-56. Salt Lake shot an astonishing 95 percent from the free throw line, the highest of the season. The Bruins out rebounded the Bobcats 38 to 32 and passed the ball flawlessly, tallying 18 assists.  

Annie Brady led the Bruins with a season-high double-double appearance with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Brady went 10-17 from the field. Sica Cuzic had 16 points and six rebounds going 10-10 from the free throw line. Karina Broandon finished strong with 12 points and eight rebounds. Tia Hay rounded out the double figures with 12 points and four assists.


Salt Lake will now face the defending National Champions No. 1 Gulf Coast for their ticket into the National Championship game. The match-up is set for Friday, March 24 at 4 p.m. (MDT). You can watch by clicking here.

SLCC Alumnus and U.S. Diplomat to Speak at 2025 Commencement

Salt Lake Community College’s 2025 Commencement speaker Branigan Knowlton will share his perspectives drawn from a 12-year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. In serving his country, Knowlton has honed his foreign relations and diplomacy skills in Hong Kong, Mexico, Colombia and Italy. Knowlton is also a proud Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) alumnus (2002).     Knowlton currently serves at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Before reporting to the embassy, he was detailed to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as part of the Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellowship program. In Bogotá, Knowlton worked for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and in Hermosillo, Mexico, he worked for the Bureau of Consular Affairs.
