SLCC Softball: Swing For Life

Number 4 ranked SLCC Softball team is hosting their annual Swing for Life game this Saturday against Western Nevada College. Come support the Bruins and help them fight Breast Cancer! Double header starts at 12 pm, March 31 at Bruin Field. All proceeds will go towards The Cause Against Breast Cancer.

Irish Dancers Dance at the Grand Theatre

Alan Scarniff and Kieran Hardiman, professional Irish stepdancers, opened a studio in West Valley City to teach more the art of Irish Dancing. Today, their students are seen dancing in the Grand Theatre, on the set of The Crucible, running through March 24th. Congrats SLCC Aviation Maintenance

The SLCC Aviation Maintenance program team members recently competed for the first time in the Aircraft Maintenance Professionals AMT Society’s Fifth Annual Aircraft Maintenance Competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada. They came away with a fourth place finish from among 16 schools. Our team also placed first in the Goodyear Tire Inspection event—from among all competitors, including industry representatives. Congratulations SLCC Aircraft Maintenance team members-- Well done!

Proposals Due: SLCC 2012 Student Conference on Writing and Social Justice

Submit your proposal for the SLCC 2012 Student Conference on Writing and Social Justice . Proposals will be considered for: academic and creative works (researched papers, short films, poster presentations, poetry readings, etc.), exploring how writing is used to promote change, and engage actively with the community. Presentations will be limited to 15 minutes.   Proposals may address the following or related topics : • What is meant by civility? Reminder: David Oshinsky Lectures March 7

There are two opportunities to hear David Oshinsky on March 7 First lecture: Noon-1:30pm Oak Room, Student Center, Taylorsville Redwood Campus To discuss his book "A Conspiracy So Immense: The World of Joe McCarthy" and how it relates to the Grand Theatre production of "The Crucible." Second lecture: 6 pm Grand Theatre A question and answer session moderated by two distinguished SLCC Faculty members. The discussion will focus on Dr. Oshinsky's knowledge of the McCarthy era and how it influenced Arthur Miller and other artists of the time. Biography: David Oshinsky holds the Jack S. Blanton Chair in History at The University of Texas at Austin and is a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at New York University. He graduated from Cornell in 1965 and obtained his PhD from Brandeis University in 1971. His books include “A Conspiracy So Immense: The World of Joe McCarthy,” which won the Hardeman Prize for the best book about the U.S. Congre

Date and Time:  March 12th, 1:00 p.m. To 2:30 p.m. Title: Culture and academia : A Fublright PerspectiveSponsored by:  SLCC International Steering Committee Light refreshments will be served Dr. Wang: Dr. Bohua Wang currently teaches at the Chinese Capital Medical University in Beijing.  A graduate of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and the China Academy of Medical Science, his research focuses on the classic theory of acupuncture.Since his arrival on January 4, 2012, Dr. Wang has been busy with several speaking engagements, as well as providing guest lecturing in many of the SLCC School of Health Sciences programs. On professional development day, January 6, 2012, Dr. Wang, along with Dean Haeger and Dean Gunn, presented on the Fulbright Scholar Program, and on January 25, he gave a college-wide presentation on the Chinese culture, including music, art, food and the Chinese New Year. 2012 Commencement Speaker: Abby Wambach

Salt Lake Community College announces Abby Wambach as its 2012 Commencement speaker. The 2012 Salt Lake Community College Commencement Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the Maverik Center, located at 3200 South Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City, Utah. Abby Wambach was a collegiate All-American as a player at the University of Florida who first joined the United States’ Women’s National Team in 2001. She has won an Olympic Games gold medal and led the U.S. team to the World Cup finals. Wambach has been recognized as the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year and FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year—and currently ranks second in lifetime international competition goals scored behind only her former teammate Mia Hamm. In 2001, she made her WNT debut at that year’s Nike U.S. Women’s Cup. The next year, she was the second player taken in the WUSA draft by the Washington Freedom. In 2003, Abby started all five Women’s World Cup matches
