Grand Youth Theatre Dazzles with Final Performance

Their dance moves dazzled. Their voices rose up in unison. And behind the scenes, the lights, sound and sets provided the perfect backdrop for another year of great performances from the annual Grand Youth Theatre Summer Camp.

For two weeks each June students in grades 7-12 from across Utah learn every aspect of theatre production from experienced, working professionals. Each camp ends in performances on the Grand Theatre stage by the students, who also handle the technical side of things, for family, friends and the general public.

Classes for the performance track include master classes in acting, Shakespeare, devised theatre, stage combat, directing, playwriting, auditioning, voice and movement for the actor. Students in the technical track learn about lighting, sound, costume and set design, scenic painting and stage management. Musical theatre students receive training in Broadway-style voice, dance and acting as they work on solos, duets and group numbers to perform on stage. Students also receive free tickets for exclusive matinees, post-performance talks with directors, actors and technicians and access to after-school theatre programs throughout the year.

The Grand Theatre prides itself on being a “theatre for the community,” with professional-quality productions showcasing local talent, educational outreach programs and community partnerships. HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
