“The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)” Plays for Laughs at the Grand

Salt Lake Community College’s Grand Theatre presents the hilarious musical theater parody, “The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!),” running Backstage at the Grand, Feb. 13 – March 7, 2020. Seating is limited.

Having received multiple award nominations, “The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)” tells the story of June, an ingenue struggling to pay rent, plagued by her evil landlord, encouraged by her wise neighbor and potentially saved by the leading man. A cast of 10 actors jump between variations of five settings and delightful musicals, each written in distinctive styles of different composers—from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim. It’s a hilarious parody of musical theater.

“Whether you’re a musical theater buff, or just someone who enjoys theatre once in a while, you’ll laugh at this show as it pays homage to some of the greatest musical theater writers and composers by lovingly needling and roasting them,” said Seth Miller, artistic and executive director of The Grand Theatre.

The production, which is directed and choreographed by Jim Christian, is rated PG-13 for adult themes and language. Performances are scheduled 7:30 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays. Tickets range from $12 – $23 and can be purchased at 801-957-3322 or www.GrandTheatreCompany.com. The Grand Theatre offers discounts for groups, military/veterans, SLCC students and employees, junior high and high school students and others.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction. Efficiency adds maturity to that childlike impulse, creating structures and pathways for accomplishment.  Andrew’s work has alwa...
