Desmontando Los Mitos de la Ayuda Financiera



Salt Lake Community College es uno de los colegios universitarios más accesibles de Utah. Incluso entonces, el averiguar cómo pagar la universidad puede ser intimidante para los estudiantes. Existen varias formas las cuales pueden hacer que su educación sea más barata mientras persigue sus sueños. Aquí se presentan cinco mitos principales cuando se trata de ayuda financiera.

1. La Ayuda financiera y FAFSA son lo mismo. FALSO.

Ayuda financiera es el término general utilizado para explicar cualquier tipo de asistencia monetaria que ayuda a pagar la universidad y cualquier gasto relacionado con ella para ayudar a pagar la universidad, por ejemplo, una computadora para completar tareas, libros u otros útiles escolares. La Solicitud Gratuita de Ayuda Federal para Estudiantes (FAFSA, por sus siglas en inglés) es una solicitud del gobierno la cual ayuda a determinar la ayuda federal.

2. Solo necesito solicitar FAFSA una vez en mi carrera universitaria. FALSO.

Durante su carrera universitaria, debe solicitar FAFSA todos los años. Aunque la solicitud es compleja, la oficina de ayuda financiera de SLCC puede ayudar a completarla.

3. No califico para ayuda financiera. La mayoría de los estudiantes califican para algún tipo de ayuda financiera independientemente de su estatus migratorio.

  • Si no es elegible para solicitar FAFSA, existen otras formas de obtener asistencia. Hay becas disponibles en SLCC y becas privadas que puede usar para ayudar a pagar la universidad. 

Consulte su portal de estudiantes y el panel de ayuda financiera o visite la oficina de ayuda financiera para obtener más información.

4. Solo las personas con buenas notas(calificaciones) obtienen becas. No necesariamente.

Dependiendo de la beca, es posible que necesite un alto rendimiento académico para ser considerado para ella. Por otro lado, FAFSA no considera sus calificaciones para obtener fondos federales. Sin embargo, es esencial resaltar que se espera que mantengan un rendimiento académico satisfactorio, como mínimo 2.0 GPA (de promedio de calificaciones).

5. Las becas son la única ayuda financiera disponible. Las becas no son la única ayuda financiera disponible para los estudiantes.

Existen préstamos, becas, exenciones de matrícula y estudio y trabajo. Es importante hablar con el equipo de ayuda financiera para comprender mejor su elegibilidad para los recursos disponibles y lo que cada uno significa.

No importa cuán compleja sea su pregunta sobre ayuda financiera, hay una respuesta para ella. El equipo de ayuda financiera de SLCC está ubicado en todo el valle de Salt Lake para brindar recursos y asistencia a los estudiantes sin importar cuán abrumador el proceso.

The Center for Prior Learning Receives an Honorable Mention

Today, SLCC's Credit for Prior Learning department received an Honorable Mention from the  Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL ) and the  Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education  for its intentional approach and for expanding student options to receive credit for prior learning.  Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)  allows students to obtain college credit for knowledge and skills acquired outside of the traditional academic environment. This is exceptionally beneficial for adult learners, who, according to CAEL, have a 17% higher chance of graduating compared to those adults who don’t earn credits through prior learning programs. The CPL department at SLCC was created in 2020 and since then the volume of students served has grown as the department continues to expand. Board of Higher Ed names Gregory F. Peterson 9th SLCC President

The Utah Board of Higher Education unanimously selected Gregory F. Peterson, Ed.D., as the ninth president of Salt Lake Community College today, following an extensive national search. Peterson will assume the position on July 1, 2024, and succeeds Deneece G.
