SLCC Unveils New Plaza

Salt Lake Community College Alder Amphitheater, located at the Taylorsville campus, has long been a central hub for students and the community to enjoy outdoor performances. Recently, it underwent a remarkable transformation into a vibrant plaza. The newly designed Alder Plaza features outdoor learning spaces, venues for events, food trucks, and plenty of space to unwind and relax.

The spirit of the old Alder Amphitheater lives on in the new plaza, in part thanks to another generous gift from the Alder family. Their continuous support and advocacy for SLCC have been instrumental in transforming the college into a place of engaged learning. Bruce and Coralie Alder, along with Bruce’s parents, the late Jack and Kay Alder, have left a beautiful legacy for past, present and future SLCC Bruins to enjoy.

In addition to their generous contribution to the creation of the Alder Plaza, Bruce and Coralie have been actively involved in service to SLCC. Coralie's current role as a member of SLCC's Board of Trustees and the Trustee representative on the Foundation Board, along with Bruce's past service on the Foundation Board, exemplifies their commitment to the college's continued success. Bruce's late father, Jack Alder, was a founding member of the SLCC Foundation in 1983, served as the Foundation President in 1996, and was a Board Member until his death in 2012.

As SLCC continues to evolve and thrive, the creation of the Alder Plaza stands as a testament to the power of philanthropy and community involvement. It is a space that reflects the college's dedication to student success and serves as a celebration of the Alder family's enduring legacy.

While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed.
