Come to SLCC and Go Global

The Office of Engaged Learning provides all SLCC students with a transformative learning opportunity to study and spend time abroad or domestically through the Study Away program. This program not only provides students with opportunities but also opens the doors to the world and the benefits of studying away go far beyond academics.

Studying away enhances students' educational experience as they immerse themselves far away from home, sometimes abroad, in a new culture and language while applying newly acquired knowledge. This opportunity empowers students to embrace new experiences while broadening their perspective of the world, fostering personal growth and making connections in meaningful ways.

Patton Kirkpatrick, who participated in the Japanese Language and Cultural Immersion program in Spring 2024, says the experience was hard but amazing. "The program curriculum was challenging, and I did struggle with mobility due to my physical disability, but I got to experience so many new things that I wouldn't trade it for anything," says Patton.

“Go for it, just do it! Studying away will give you one of the most unique opportunities of your life. Time will pass, so why not have fun and study abroad?” says Patton.

Ethan Hoggan, Engaged Learning Specialist, encourages students to take advantage of the opportunity to travel and learn simultaneously. SLCC has the most affordable study-away program of any institution in the state. "This year stands out as one of the most accessible yet, thanks to the hard work we've put in to make it that way," says Ethan.Financial assistance is available to help students make their dream of studying away a reality. There will be a webinar on Thursday, September 26, where folks can learn more about Funding SLCC Study Away. Registration is required. If interested, register here.

This academic year, students can study away in Louisiana, India, Japan, and Colombia. Students interested in this opportunity are encouraged to attend the Study Away Fair, which will be held on Wednesday, September 25, at the Taylorsville Campus Student Center West Patio.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
