Salt Lake Community College recently partnered with InsideTrack, an organization dedicated to helping students navigate their educational journeys. This collaboration aims to provide personalized re-enrollment support to students who have stopped attending college without adding a burden to SLCC staff and faculty.
“The work that Inside Track does as a nationwide nonprofit is tailored to supporting learners on their academic journey,” says InsideTrack Senior Vice President for Partner Success, Steve Ast, “we generally focus on non-traditional learners -- such as adult learners, first-generation college students, minorities, or Pell eligible individuals -- those are the folks who we want to benefit from coaching .”
The primary focus of the partnership is targeting students who began their educational journey at SLCC but did not complete it. InsideTrack will handle the outreach to students and guide them through the process.
Personalized Coaching Support
Participants will receive personalized coaching through InsideTrack for six months. The support will include assistance with re-enrollment and guidance on reintegrating into campus and academic life. The student experience through InsideTrack is tailored to each student's needs, ensuring the maximum level of success for the student.
Benefits for SLCC Community
- Increased Enrollment and Retention Rates: By assisting students in returning to their academic paths, SLCC and InsideTrack foresee a boost in enrollment and completion rates at the college.
- Greater Engagement: Reconnecting students with the resources available to them and ensuring they learn to navigate the college system can help increase their confidence, making it more likely they will seek help when needed on campus.
- Valuable Insights: InsideTrack’s interactions with SLCC students will provide valuable information on why students drop out and how SLCC can better support students to prevent future dropouts.
Looking Ahead
The partnership aims to support 2,000 students over the next three years, with the first year targeting 1,000 students and 500 students each year thereafter until the three years are completed. As SLCC works toward achieving Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) status, this initiative is a critical step in that direction.
“This collaboration is an intentional commitment to the students and what it means to improve outcomes for students intentionally, their sense of belonging and our support for them,” says Hispanic Serving Initiatives Director, Tranquilino “Kino” Hurtado.
