2013 SLCC Student Art Showcase Poster Design Contest

ENTRIES ARE DUE on or before WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13.

The Visual Art & Design Department invites Salt Lake Community College students to participate in a poster design contest announcing the 2013 SLCC Student Art Showcase.

This contest is open to all currently enrolled SLCC students. (Professionals or instructors are not eligible. Entrants must be able to verify student status.) The winning poster design will be used to promote the 2013 SLCC Student Art Showcase on campus as well as other venues and media. In addition, a cash award of $100 will be given to the student winner.

Poster design contest entries will be displayed on the 3rd floor of the SLCC Administration Building, Taylorsville Redwood Campus and VAD classrooms at the South City Campus from FEBRUARY 14 through 21. The SLCC Student Art Showcase Committee will make final determination as to winning entry.


Students may enter more than once. The SLCC Student Art Showcase Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any entry. The student winner may be asked to alter elements of the design for all the various art show applications as needed.

REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS for poster design contest:
Document Setup: Tabloid 11 x 17 inches (tall) output at 100%. Set top, left and right margins at .375 inch. The bottom margin should be set at 1.25 inches. This will allow a white border around the design.

File Format: Poster designs should be created in either Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator ONLY. The actual file should NOT be sent, but if chosen will need to be in one of the required file formats.

Originality: Any illustration, graphic or photo must be original work of the poster designer – or – a signed release form (if using anotherʼs work, as in the case of photo or illustration) must be presented if a poster is chosen as the winner.

Color: 4 Color Process (cmyk) or Pantone Spot Color on white paper. NO RGB!
Submission: TWO outputs of EACH poster design MUST BE SUBMITTED. Do not mount.
Student Information: Please put your NAME, PHONE and EMAIL on the back, lower right hand corner of your poster. Posters will not be accepted if these three items are not listed.
When & Where to Submit: Administration Bldg. • Taylorsville Redwood Campus • Room 326 • Monday – Thursday, 8 AM to Noon.

LAST DAY TO ENTER CONTEST: WEDNESDAY, FEB. 13, 8 AM to NOON. THE DOOR WILL BE CLOSED at NOON on that date!

NOTE: Submissions will not be returned.

SLCC Alumnus and U.S. Diplomat to Speak at 2025 Commencement

Salt Lake Community College’s 2025 Commencement speaker Branigan Knowlton will share his perspectives drawn from a 12-year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. In serving his country, Knowlton has honed his foreign relations and diplomacy skills in Hong Kong, Mexico, Colombia and Italy. Knowlton is also a proud Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) alumnus (2002).     Knowlton currently serves at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Before reporting to the embassy, he was detailed to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as part of the Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellowship program. In Bogotá, Knowlton worked for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and in Hermosillo, Mexico, he worked for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says.
