Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom
to read. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access
to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of
censorship. Check out the frequently challenged books section of the official
Banned & Challenged Books Website to explore the issues and controversies
around book challenges and book banning. The books featured during Banned Books
Week have all been targeted with removal or restrictions in libraries and
schools.
To celebrate Banned Books Week, the SLCC Digital Archives
has created an interactive exhibit at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus Library
which will run from September 23rd into the beginning of October. This physical
exhibit highlights:
-- books in the SLCC Libraries collections that have been
banned or challenged
-- Virtual Read-Out videos available to view
-- information about the history of Banned Books Week
-- and some suggestions about what people can to get
involved.
Be sure to stop by the Redwood Markosian Library to see the
exhibit!
