SLCC Summer Spirit Band July performances

In case you missed Salt Lake Community College's Summer Spirit Band performances earlier this summer, there's still time to see, hear and support them later this month.

Upcoming performances include: July 18, 9 a.m., Draper Days Parade; July 20, 6 p.m., Days of '47 Float Preview Party; July 23, 6 p.m., Bountiful Handcart Days Parade; and July 24, 9 a.m., KSL Days of '47 Parade in Salt Lake City.

Not your typical military-precision marching band, Summer Spirit is fun-focused, playing fan favorites that span several decades and genres. Band Director Craig Ferrin continues the annual tradition of taking his group into neighborhoods around SLCC’s South City Campus for impromptu concerts as a means of preparation for the big Days of '47 Parade and engaging with the community. Previous performaces were held in Lehi, Taylorsville, Riverton, Murray, West Jordan and Sandy.

Volleyball Team Also Excels in the Classroom

The Salt Lake Community College volleyball program is one of the nation's top junior college programs on the court but the Bruins are also one of the leaders in the classroom. The program released its academic accomplishments from the 2018-19 academic year over the Memorial Day weekend, celebrating several individual and team accomplishments. SLCC's awards represent another year where the Bruins have been recognized for the success of their student-athletes.  Salt Lake coach   Sue Dulaney   said the team focuses on academics in almost all of their team activities.
