Writing Workshops at SLCC's Community Writing Center


Salt Lake Community College will host the following workshops at the SLCC Library Square Center's Community Writing Center, 231 East 400 South, Salt Lake City:


Race Perspectives Workshop
2-part workshop
November 4 and 11, 6-8 p.m.
As part of the Utah Race Perspectives Project, writers explore micro-stories, poems, and essays about race, ethnicity, and cultural identity. Writers can submit their work to the Race Perspectives website. Cost: Free. Registration is required.

NaNoWriMo: Write a Novel in a Month
4-part workshop
November 7, 14, 21 and 28, 1-3 p.m.
November is National Novel Writing Month! Join us for this fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. We’ll explore techniques for writing 50,000 words in 30 days and attempt to end the month with a finished product. Don’t worry about mistakes; that’s part of the process. Coaching sessions will also be available during the week. Cost: $60. Registration is required.

Small Writing Treasures for the Holidays
1-part workshop
December 9, 6-8 p.m.
Are you looking for a small yet meaningful gift for a friend, loved one or family member? Make it personal—get creative for this years’ holiday where we will start with pieces of paper to create a nice gift for that special someone. Join us at the CWC where we will create a fun keepsake with memorable writing for you to share! Cost: $15. All materials will be provided. Registration is required.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction. Did you know you can access SLCC lab software for free from your own computing device?   Come learn how SLCC is supporting BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) with All Access. The goal of All Access is to provide any time, any place, and any device access to college computing and lab software SLCC students, faculty and staff.  All Access works on almost any device from a PC or Mac, to tablets and smart phones.  With All Access you can use programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, AutoCAD, MatLab, Mathematica, MyITLab, NetBeans, and online Library Databases.  We also provide you with online storage space so you can save your files in the cloud and have access to them wherever you are.  Anyone is welcome to this session where we will cover the basics of All Access, give you some tips and tricks for getting the most out the system, and we’ll also have some people there to help get your computer set up.  When and where: ...
