Library Services Grant Helps Preserve Part of Utah’s Photographic History

The Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board awarded a Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board grant to Salt Lake Community College Library Services. USHRAB officials said in a statement that they are “excited” to be partnering with SLCC for the digitization of historical photographs from the College’s physical archives as part of a larger effort in preserving Utah’s history.

“We are excited that this project will highlight interesting subjects from the physical archives and make them available to a broader audience,” said Jen Hughes, librarian at SLCC’s Markosian Library.


The $2,000 USHRAB grant, which runs through June 22, 2018 will fund efforts to digitize approximately 800 photographs documenting SLCC’s past, including convocations, presidential inaugurations, club activities and instructional program activities. The photographs range from the mid-1950s through the mid-1990s. Markosian staff will upload all digitized images into its online repository, create an online exhibit and add key digital images to the College’s history-interactive timeline. The Center for Prior Learning Receives an Honorable Mention

Today, SLCC's Credit for Prior Learning department received an Honorable Mention from the  Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL ) and the  Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education  for its intentional approach and for expanding student options to receive credit for prior learning.  Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)  allows students to obtain college credit for knowledge and skills acquired outside of the traditional academic environment. This is exceptionally beneficial for adult learners, who, according to CAEL, have a 17% higher chance of graduating compared to those adults who don’t earn credits through prior learning programs. The CPL department at SLCC was created in 2020 and since then the volume of students served has grown as the department continues to expand. Board of Higher Ed names Gregory F. Peterson 9th SLCC President

The Utah Board of Higher Education unanimously selected Gregory F. Peterson, Ed.D., as the ninth president of Salt Lake Community College today, following an extensive national search. Peterson will assume the position on July 1, 2024, and succeeds Deneece G.
