Theatre Department Performing 'Festival Dionysia' at Alder Amphitheatre

The Salt Lake Community College Theatre Department is proud to present the production Festival Dionysia 2021 for two performances Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. each night.

The Festival Dionysia is a Greek Festival from 5th Century Greece, celebrating theatre, music and Dionysus, the god of fertility, wine and revelry. The festivals were a competition to determine the best playwright of the year. In 2021, it is finally time to determine the true winner once and for all.

Four groups of student performers will take on the four most successful Greek playwrights in an all-out battle to determine the best Greek playwright of all time. Under the direction of Zac Curtis, this show will feature live music, poetry, dance, drama and comedy. In honor of Dionysus, it will be a party that audiences will never forget.

Performances will take place at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus Alder Amphitheater, 4600 South Redwood Road. Audience masks and social distancing will be required. House opens at 7 p.m., performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and is 75 minutes in length with no intermission.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed.
