Culinary Art Club Officers

A pinch of this and a squeeze of that with the right ingredients, patience and a whole lot of love; the byproduct of raw materials can become an exquisite meal. The Salt Lake Community College Culinary Club does not only invite folks—whether in the culinary program or not--to join the club, they opened their doors to everyone to participate in their events, and Spooky Bites was no exception.

Burnt Ends (flavorful pieces of meat)

Spooky Bites, an annual event hosted by the Culinary Club brings camaraderie and a joyful ambiance, as strong as the aromas coming from the food. A competitive event where participants showcase their culinary skills by creating food to be shared amongst attendees. A celebration that was once strictly for culinary students was opened to all SLCC community to attend and participate.

“Opening the opportunity to all people to participate, not just to those in the cooking and baking track, would allow people to showcase their talents and love for food and, more importantly, create a bigger community at SLCC,” says Ted Martinez, culinary club president and culinary arts student.

Walking through the doors to the Miller Campus Culinary Institute transported both attendees and participants to an enchanting world full of sweet and smoky magical aromas of burnt ends and the hypnotizing smell of pumpkin spice cheesecake. Smells that lingered together yet never mixed.


Food has the power to bring people together and help them find common ground in a world of uncertainty and division. Those in the club share a passion for creating magical and delicious food items while reminiscing on how they started their cooking. A parallel experience shared amongst most participants. “The unique opportunity the culinary program and club have to build communities through food and bring everyone together is one of the things that I enjoy bragging about most,” says Interim Dean and Chef Jeff Coker.

SLCC West Valley Center will be opening its doors on Friday, August 2, from 6-9 pm for their annual lowrider event that celebrates the automotive culture and welcomes current, past, and future Bruins into the SLCC community.
