Celebrate Black History Month With This SLCC Events





As we celebrate Black History Month, we must reflect on African Americans' significant contributions and achievements throughout history. At Salt Lake Community College, we are proud to honor the rich Black history and recognize the critical role they have played in shaping our society. 

Throughout the month of February a series of events and activities will be hosted to celebrate Black History Month. These will include pop-up Black businesses, art exhibits, concerts, and more. Students, staff, faculty, and the community are welcome to attend the events that will be hosted. 


Beloved Community Photography Exhibit Reception

The 2023-2024 Beloved Community Photography Project provided photography equipment and instruction by Salt Lake Community College faculty members to students from Whittier Elementary and Glendale Middle School to showcase their beloved connections with their communities through artwork.

C.A.L.M Mini-Retreat: Nonviolent Social Change
Monday, February 12

The SLCC Center for Authentic Leadership & Mindfulness (CALM) offers a retreat focused on Martin Luther King's principles of nonviolence. Join us for an afternoon of introspect and reflection with facilitators Elisa Stone & Marian Howe-Taylor.

Songs of Love & Hope Concert

Songs of Love & Hope, featuring soloist Dee Dee Darby-Duffin with SLCC Chamber Singers, is a celebration of songs made popular during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s & 1970s.

The National African American Read-In is the nation's first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature. It was established by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month.

SLCC West Valley Center will be opening its doors on Friday, August 2, from 6-9 pm for their annual lowrider event that celebrates the automotive culture and welcomes current, past, and future Bruins into the SLCC community.
