Support SLCC Students – Giving Day is Here!

Each year, SLCC hosts Giving Day, where the community comes together and makes donations toward scholarships and other essential college services. This year’s Giving Day is Thursday, February 15, and the college invites everyone to participate

There are several ways to get involved – choose the option that works best for you!

Option 1: Donate

Those who choose to donate on Giving Day can direct their gift to one of six areas: General Scholarships, Bruin Dreams Scholarship (for undocumented students, asylum-seeking students, and students seeking official Temporary Protection Status), Bruin Emergency Fund, SLCC Child Care Program, Bruin Pantry, and the Partnerships for Accessing College Education (PACE) program.

Option 2: Become a Social Media Ambassador

SLCC is looking for anyone with a social media presence to help spread the word about Giving Day. Interested? Sign up to be an ambassador here, and you’ll be emailed a Giving Day social media kit complete with visual assets and suggested post copy. Ambassadors can also win an Amazon Gift Card of up to $150 if they post about Giving Day and encourage others to donate.

Option 3: Cheer on the Bruin Basketball teams and donate to the Bruin Pantry

On February 15 at 5 p.m., SLCC’s Men and Women’s basketball teams will play College of Southern Idaho at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Fans in attendance can make monetary donations on site to the Bruin Pantry. If we get at least 200 donors during the game, UFirst Credit Union will donate an extra $5,000 to the Pantry. Also, each person who donates while at the game will receive an SLCC beanie.

Option 4: Any Combination You Choose!

Want to donate and be a social media ambassador? That’s great! Plan to attend the basketball games to support and encourage your Facebook friends to support Giving Day? Fantastic! We hope everyone does what they can to support our extraordinary students.

More information can be found on the Giving Day website or at one of the Giving Day pop-up locations that will be at the Taylorsville, Jordan, and South City campuses on February 15.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction. Efficiency adds maturity to that childlike impulse, creating structures and pathways for accomplishment.  Andrew’s work has alwa...
