Salt Lake Community College won third place in the Competency-Based
Education Network’s first-ever national Storytelling Contest. The school
received the award for a video presentation highlighting the benefits of SLCC’sCompetency-Based Education program.
SLCC tied with Southern New Hampshire University and as part
of the award received $1,000 for its CBE program. Winning videos were selected
for their ability to illustrate the value of CBE’s innovative approach to
higher education. This year, 18 video stories were submitted by C-BEN member
schools. The competition is designed to encourage member universities to share
digital stories about the positive impact competency-based education is having
on their students.
SLCC is a founding member of C-BEN and has played a large
role in helping to develop and refine the organization’s quality framework for
CBE programs. Since 2015, SLCC has enrolled over 1,000 students in its CBE programs,
which run on an open-term and allow students to accelerate and decelerate their
studies as needed. In addition, students can start a program on most any Monday
throughout the year.
