Asking for Feedback as an Employee
~ 21 minutes
Asking for feedback is integral to cultivating a growth mindset and being self-reliant—traits that managers want in all their employees, regardless of role or level. Jodi Glickman, bestselling author of Great on the Job, teaches you how to take ownership of your career by asking for specific and actionable feedback. Learn how to avoid common pitfalls, such as asking the wrong people, asking the wrong questions, and asking at the wrong time.

Four Antiracism/Whiteness Trainings
Co-sponsored by Staff Association and People & Workplace Culture
Facilitated by Dr. David Derezotes
A series of four anti-racism workshops will be offered to those members of the SLCC community who identify as White. The intention of these workshops to co-create a brave space where participants do the often hard work of examining our own racism and White privilege and committing to anti-racist actions. We begin our work with the awareness that we are all living in a racist culture and participate, often unconsciously, in racist actions. A limit of 30 participants will be enrolled, and participants will be asked to commit to attending all four workshops. All workshops will be conducted over zoom once a month, in January, February, March & April 2021. Each workshop will be 90 minutes long, and will have a check in, a short didactic segment related to the literature, an experiential learning segment, and a check out.
Workshop Spring dates: January 13, 2021; February 10, 2021; March 10, 2021 and April 7, 2021
Dr. David Derezotes (Dr. Dave) is Professor, University of Utah, Chair of Mental Health, College of Social Work, Director of Peace & Conflict Studies, College of Humanities, Fellow, Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence, Facilitator for President Watkin's Anti-Racism Task Force, Chair of Senate Advisory Committee on Diversity SACD, and MUSE Professor, Undergraduate Studies. Special Event
The Power of Our Stories to Heal, featuring keynote speaker, Sara Jones
Listen here to the recorded session from 10/9/2020.
Sara Jones is CEO of InclusionPro®, where she consults thoughtful leaders on building inclusive cultures, with a particular focus on team performance and team innovation. Her life and career path have taken her through unexpected twists and turns — from patent attorney to tech CEO. Her ability to connect with people has enabled her to build strong communities of influence.
In 2018, after 42 years of separation, Sara discovered her South Korean birth family — thanks to a mysterious tattoo that her birth father gave her when she was two years old. Her story made national news in South Korea: https://youtu.be/WVAvDlXAOB4. TED featured her sometimes heartbreaking talk about the emotional complexity of adoption, which has over 1.5 million views: go.ted.com/sarajones.
Sara will share her insight on validating our own personal stories — everyone has one! She’ll discuss how to blend our stories together to contribute to a community of inclusion. Finally, she’ll bring deeper understanding to how we use our stories to bridge the issues that divide us.
