Staff-Only Learning Circle (Up to 12 staff)
Staff-only learning circle for the book Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Registration will be live for the month of November and will allow up to 12 registrants.
Join Dr. Kathryn Kay Coquemont, Associate Vice President for Student Success, for a learning circle and group read of Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. This learning circle will meet virtually in the spring and allows for up to 12 members. Members must register by the end of November, and the book will be provided in early December. The spring meetings will be as follows:

Four Anti-racism/Whiteness Trainings
Co-sponsored by Staff Association and People & Workplace Culture
Facilitated by Dr. David Derezotes
A series of four anti-racism workshops will be offered to those members of the SLCC community who identify as White. The intention of these workshops to co-create a brave space where participants do the often hard work of examining our own racism and White privilege and committing to anti-racist actions. We begin our work with the awareness that we are all living in a racist culture and participate, often unconsciously, in racist actions. A limit of 30 participants will be enrolled, and participants will be asked to commit to attending all four workshops. All workshops will be conducted over zoom once a month, in January, February, March & April 2021. Each workshop will be 90 minutes long, and will have a check in, a short didactic segment related to the literature, an experiential learning segment, and a check out.
Workshop Spring dates: January 13, 2021; February 10, 2021; March 10, 2021 and April 7, 2021
Dr. David Derezotes (Dr. Dave) is Professor, University of Utah, Chair of Mental Health, College of Social Work, Director of Peace & Conflict Studies, College of Humanities, Fellow, Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence, Facilitator for President Watkin's Anti-Racism Task Force, Chair of Senate Advisory Committee on Diversity SACD, and MUSE Professor, Undergraduate Studies.He has been facilitating dialogues on campus and in the local and regional communities for over 30 years.

Meditative Pause at SLCC
Join SLCC faculty Heidi O’Donoghue and Andrea Malouf each week for Meditative Pause for People in Higher Education. Each week we will take a break from doing and problem-solving to come together for half-hour sessions to connect, relax and center via web-ex. We’ll explore breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as best practices for mindful communication and well-being. Each session will include a very brief introduction to the weekly topic, a guided meditation and then a short group reflection.
No prior experience or registration required. Just join when you can. If you’d like to receive weekly web-ex reminders, please send your email and your department name to Andrea (andrea.malouf@slcc.edu) or Heidi (heidi.o’donoghue@slcc.edu). Or just email with questions.
