We Need Your Help in Defeating COVID-19!

During the past several weeks, COVID-19 cases have been high, and Utah has implemented several mitigation efforts to try to slow the spread. SLCC is supportive of these measures, which have included on-campus testing, face covering usage and social distancing.

While the actual case count has decreased somewhat over the past two weeks, the occupancy rate for intensive care is at around 100 percent. This is a problem because it severely limits the quality of care hospitals can provide to those not only severely ill with COVID-19, but also to any patient who may need medical attention due to an accident or other emergency.

We all are experiencing COVID-19 fatigue, but we must continue to do our part in slowing the spread of the virus. As such, SLCC is reminding everyone to continue adhering to the following:

  • If you are sick for any reason, even if you don’t think your illness is severe, stay home.
  • Even if you are well, please check your symptoms each day before reporting to work or school. If you have a fever, body aches or chills, cough or runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath or if you are experiencing a decrease in your sense of smell or taste, do not come to campus. Instead, get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible at any of Utah’s testing facilities.
  • On-campus testing is only for those showing no symptoms. Everyone is screened for illness upon arrival, and you will be turned away if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If you test positive for COVID, you are required to fill out our COVID-19 Self-Report form. Once you’ve completed the form, you will be contacted by one of SLCC’s contact tracers. Please follow all of their instructions regarding quarantine and self-isolation, and do not return to campus for any reason until you have been cleared to do so.
  • If you have been exposed to COVID-19, you are required to follow all recommended protocols and procedures.
  • If you have received the COVID-19 vaccination or if you have recovered from the virus, you are still required to follow all school safety protocols.
  • While on campus, everyone must adhere to our face covering policy and follow all social distancing guidelines.
  • If your job allows, please make arrangements with your supervisor to work from home.
  • When engaged in activities outside of the college, please continue to follow all safety regulations and recommendations.

Additionally, while employees are telecommuting, departments are asked to continue following their normal internal communications activities as much as possible so everyone feels informed, connected and part of the team.

Thanks to everyone in advance for doing what must be done to keep all of Utah safe and well!

The Center for Prior Learning Receives an Honorable Mention

Today, SLCC's Credit for Prior Learning department received an Honorable Mention from the  Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL ) and the  Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education  for its intentional approach and for expanding student options to receive credit for prior learning.  Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)  allows students to obtain college credit for knowledge and skills acquired outside of the traditional academic environment. This is exceptionally beneficial for adult learners, who, according to CAEL, have a 17% higher chance of graduating compared to those adults who don’t earn credits through prior learning programs. The CPL department at SLCC was created in 2020 and since then the volume of students served has grown as the department continues to expand. To be eligible for CPL, students must be working towards a degree, certificate, or apprenticeship. Director of Credit for Prior Learning at SLCC, Andrea Tipton, mentioned fee...
