Meet Our Faculty: Tiffany Hilton

Tiffany Hilton

Adjunct Professor

School of Science, Engineering and Mathematics

Mathematics

What she teaches:

Math 1040 (I have taught 1010, 1030, 1050 and 2040 in the past)

Number of years teaching at SLCC:

11

Undergraduate:

Brigham Young University

Master’s:

Colorado State University

Why working at SLCC matters:

I love teaching students who want to learn and overcome obstacles, and who work hard to do so.

Greatest professional challenge:

Helping students who have had bad experiences with math courses or math teachers in the past realize they can understand and succeed.

Greatest professional accomplishment:

I’m currently fulfilling a one-year full-time assignment to create a new course at SLCC (Math 1045) that will incorporate both algebra and statistics concepts. I’ve learned a lot of new skills and it’s been a great collaborative effort to produce materials that will benefit students.

Advice for students or others:

Your professors want you to succeed, but we can’t help you if we don’t know that you’re struggling. In both school and life, allow others to help you. Be the kind of person who helps others and let others do the same for you.

Future plans:

Although I’m enjoying working on the Math 1045 project, I’m also looking forward to going back to adjunct status, which will give me a little more free time. I also teach at BYU and it has been very busy juggling both jobs. My favorite part of working at SLCC is interacting with students, so I’m looking forward to getting to focus more on that again.

Family:

My husband and I will celebrate our 27th anniversary this year. We have four children, but the youngest graduates from high school this year. We’re not sure what to do with our empty nest, but I expect it to be quieter (and cleaner).

Hobbies:

Reading, scrapbooking, trying new restaurants, traveling, playing the piano.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
