Why working at SLCC matters:

I love the diverse population of students, staff, and faculty members. I am in awe at the number of students who rise above daunting life experiences to be here --- learning, growing, and deepening their understanding and the influence they will have on their self and the world. I love their enthusiasm! I especially enjoy seeing students apply course content in meaningful ways that enrich their relationships with others. I also appreciate the opportunities SLCC provides for faculty development and collaboration with expert instructional designers.

Greatest professional challenge:

Not enough hours in the day, or days in the week.

Greatest professional accomplishment:

Tenure!

Advice for students or others:

  • If you find yourself struggling in a class, talk to the professor.  We care about you and your success.  We know what it is like to juggle multiple responsibilities such as school, work, and family.  Now, we know how to do it during a pandemic!
  • Get to know the resources available to you at SLCC such as financial aid, tutoring, career advisors, disability resources, the writing center, and the health center to name a few.
  • Encourage friends and family members to complete their degree.  You’re never too old to learn!

Future plans:

To keep revising and updating course content, explore ways to become better at what I do, travel to far off places, and spend loads of time with family and friends.

Family:

My husband, Richard, and I have been married for 19 years, and between us we have 7 children, 11 grandchildren and a cat named Leo.  All our children live in Utah, spanning the length of the state from Smithfield to Santa Clara.  Lately, (and to our delight) our home has become a weekend or overnight hangout for our grandchildren who attend college and their friends. Richard has been on some amazing adventures. He is the first American to complete a solo-unassisted row across the Atlantic Ocean in a rowboat he built himself.  He hiked the full width of the U.S from Mexico to Canada (PCT Trail) and the Appalachian Trail. I like hiking, just much shorter distances.

Hobbies:

I have always enjoyed reading, and I have been trying on other hobbies such as jewelry-making, quilting, baking, and entertaining.  While I haven’t perfected any of them (yet), I’m having a lot of fun.

SLCC Business School is Utah’s First to be Named Exclusively After a Woman

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) proudly announces a partnership with the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation to modernize its Business Building and transform its School of Business. The improvements are made possible through a generous $10 million gift from the Miller Family Foundation and Gail Miller, the largest-ever single cash donation received by the college.  SLCC is renaming its Business Building the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Business Building in honor of the Miller family’s legacy and contributions to the community. The business school will be named the Gail Miller School of Business in recognition of the strong business acumen Gail Miller displays as a community leader and as the owner and immediate past chair of the Larry H. Miller Company. This name change will make SLCC home to the only business school in Utah and one of only a few in the country to be named exclusively after a woman.  “We are deeply humbled by the generosity of Gail and the Miller fam
