Vaccine requirement lifted for students, starting now

At more than two years since the start of the pandemic, we at SLCC are in the phase of navigating how we “learn to live” with the virus. With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continuing to decline locally, SLCC is opting to remove its vaccination requirement for students registering for classes from this point forward. You are no longer required to be vaccinated or declare an exemption to attend SLCC.

With the immediate lifting of this requirement, we still believe it important to continue tracking vaccinations, as it will help us measure the overall safety and wellbeing of our entire community across all locations. As such, students are encouraged to update the college on their vaccination status, though it is not required.

Vaccines and boosters are still the best available tools to protect against serious illness and death from COVID-19, so we encourage everyone to keep their vaccinations up-to-date per the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control. More information about where you can get vaccinated is available at vaccines.gov or on the Utah Department of Health’s website.

Even as case rates remain relatively low, COVID-19 is still out there, and if you feel comfortable wearing a face covering, you are encouraged to do so. SLCC is a mask-friendly environment!

As we move forward, we continue to ask everyone that if you are not feeling well for any reason, please stay home. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, get tested, and if the result is positive, be aware you are required to report your results to SLCC and isolate at home until you test negative. The CDC has the latest information about quarantine and isolation if you test positive.

If you have any questions regarding this update, please email COVID-19@slcc.edu. SLCC will also continue to provide updated information about how COVID-19 is being handled by the college at slcc.edu/c-19.

We look forward to seeing you in the coming semesters!

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
