Salt Lake Community College Dance Company is presenting a
multi-media dance performance in its upcoming concert titled, “eMOTION in
MOTION.” Choreographers for this event were asked to find movement that
explores the many emotions humans experience. The concert includes exciting
variety, with modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and samba dance.
“Emotions are physical and experienced in the body, so this
is a perfect theme for movement,” said Tess Boone, associate professor of dance
at SLCC. “We pride ourselves in presenting a lot of variety of dance and music
in our concerts, with an exciting visual component that will appeal to our
digitally sophisticated audience. It is a good example of our commitment to the
convergence of multi-media and performing arts here at SLCC.”
Community professionals Lorin Hansen (director of Samba
Fogo), Ro Malaga (assistant-choreographer for High School Musicals), Courtney
Norris, and SLCC dance faculty are presenting their work on Friday and
Saturday, April 11 & 12, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Theatre, 1575
South State Street. Tickets are $10, or
half price if two non-perishable food items are brought in for the Utah Food
Bank. SLCC students and staff receive free admission with a current SLCC ID and
two food items. For tickets, call the Grand Theatre box office: 801-957-3322.
The best of student choreography is being exhibited in this
concert. In addition, SLCC Film students
have collaborated with dancers to present dance-for-the-camera pieces, and
blended film and live performance numbers. Angela Challis, professional dancer
and film student, is showing two of her dance films. Blending dance and film
can be a magical experience because one can create different relationships with
time and space not possible with live performance.
