Why working at SLCC matters:

The students at SLCC are passionate about learning.  I love being able to help guide them toward the future they dream of.

Greatest professional challenge:

SLCC students come from all walks of life with widely varying goals and aspirations.  I work to make every class and degree work for each student and to help each student find ways to reach those goals.

Greatest professional accomplishments:

In the past five years we have doubled the size of our Theatre major while offering more classes and more performance opportunities for our students.  We are building SLCC Theatre into a program respected across the state. I want SLCC to be a program that trains well-rounded complete artists.  We strive to help our students find their own creativity and learn every aspect of the creation process. I have recently trained and certified as an Associate Instructor of Stage Combat through Dueling Arts International, which has allowed me to bring this work to my students in addition to working with great theatre companies like Colorado Shakespeare Festival and Utah Opera.

Advice for students or others:

Find your passion.  A degree is a great piece of paper and opens a lot of doors, but much more important is finding and working toward your passions along the way.

Future plans:

I want to continue to grow SLCC's Theatre program to be able to offer our students every theatrical opportunity they deserve.  I want every four-year institution in the state to respect the education that comes with a degree from Salt Lake Community College. We are building up our programs in Technical Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Original Devised Theatre.

Family:

wife Mindy of 11 years, kids Elena, 8 and Marshall, 6

Hobbies:

Wood Working, Stage Combat, Rooting for the Broncos

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resourc...
