College Offers New Program to Aspiring Sales Professionals

Salt Lake Community College is excited to announce its new Hall Sales Program and the accompanying Certificate of Proficiency (CP) in Professional Sales, thanks to a partnership with the Alan & Jeanne Hall Foundation.

The first group of Hall Sales students within the SLCC School of Business will begin classes in fall 2022. “I am excited about the opportunity we have, to make this program available for those interested in pursuing a career in sales as well as those who see the value in further developing these critical life skills,” says Dennis Bromley, Dean of the SLCC School of Business.

With support from the Hall Foundation, the college is able to offer scholarships to aspiring sales professionals interested in the new program. More broadly, the Hall Sales Catalysis Initiative is donating $10 million, spread out over 20 years, among 10 Utah System of Higher Education institutions, including SLCC, to create a pipeline of sales talent within Utah’s dynamic economy.

SLCC, through the Hall Sales Program, is looking forward to educating a diverse population on the fundamentals of selling and thereby provide a fulfilling and successful career in the business world. Bromley says the program will help develop soft skills that include persuasive communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and customer service. “Not only are these skills essential to success in a career in sales, but they are equally valuable in leadership positions throughout any organization,” he adds. “Many executives begin their careers in a professional sales role.”

The college also currently offers an AAS Marketing Management program, which is articulated with a clear path into the Professional Sales Bachelor’s Degree program at Weber State University.

Concurrent enrollment courses for high school students at SLCC in Business and Marketing are ongoing and represent continuing cohorts for the Hall Sales Program. Students interested in earning a CP in Professional Sales also have an online option as well as in-person classes offered at SLCC sites throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

SLCC is seeking to expand the Hall Sales Program by seeking support from within the community in order provide more scholarships for students, including those from underserved populations.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction. Efficiency adds maturity to that childlike impulse, creating structures and pathways for accomplishment.  Andrew’s work has alwa...
