What is a typical day or week like for you?
My day entails of meeting with departments that are going to be audited. It is also lots and lots and lots of researching what these departments actually do. One interesting fact about IA is that we do more than just traditional financial audits, but we also perform compliance and performance audits, so it something new every day.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
It’s challenging to show our colleagues what the purpose of IA really is, which is to mitigate any risk or harm to the college. I promise we’re not trying to make anyone’s jobs harder. Our goal is to keep you and the college safe from any risk.

Samantha Wood smiling.

What rewards come with your job?
It’s so rewarding when we don’t have any findings. However, the greatest reward I’ve experienced is how close and tight knit our dept is. For me, they truly are like family.

Who or what inspires you at work or in life and why?
My greatest inspiration at work and in my life is my son, Jeremy. He makes me want to be a better mom, work harder and be an all-around better person. He truly is the light of my life.

Tell us something about yourself from outside of your SLCC life.
Before I changed my degree to business, I was a music major. I love to sing and play the piano. I’ve had the opportunity to perform here at SLCC, Abravanel Hall, the new Eccles Theater, Temple Square, the Tabernacle, Disneyland, Washington DC LDS Temple Visitor Center, Rice-Eccles Stadium, Cathedral of the Madeleine and Carnegie Hall.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
