Salt Lake Community College Students Compete & Collaborate for Publication Opportunity
The SLCC English Department and the SLCC Publication Center present 'Translation' by Hana Jabr, being published in a print edition chapbook of 250 copies. SLCC Student Hana Jabr’s manuscript, 'Translation', was selected as the winner of the second annual SLCC chapbook competition.
Contest judge Nicole Walker, Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Northern Arizona University and author of This Noisy Egg and the upcoming Quench Your Thirst With Salt, says, “I've chosen the winner, 'Translation', for its language and its form. This is such a compelling essay.”
The author will participate in the design and publication activities with the SLCC English department’s publication studies class. Publications studies is in its second year at SLCC and provides students an opportunity to get involved in the entire publication process—from contest to design, production, marketing, and public relations.
Translation will be showcased at two free events where Jabr will read from her book and copies will be available for the first time. The first event takes place on April 12 at 7:00 p.m., at Nox Contemporary, 440 South 400 West suite h, Salt Lake City, Utah, and is open to the community. On April 13, 11:00 a.m., the public is invited to a reading and the premiere of a documentary about the publication process on the Taylorsville Redwood campus, AD Building 226. Interested participants may bind their own copies of the book.

This sound like a cool interactive workshop - I hope to make it. There are two+ books written by students in the SLCC Student Art show in the Science building.
