SLCC participates in the Great Utah ShakeOut
More than 820,000 people from across the state will be taking part in
earthquake awareness in the coming weeks. The College community is
invited to take some simple steps to be prepared in the event of an earthquake
or other natural disaster.
The first step in planning and preparing for an earthquake is to be
aware of your surroundings. Think about what your workplace environment
is like—what are the dangers that need to be avoided? What places are likely to
provide adequate shelter? Taking a quick inventory of your office and the
building you work in is a great start to taking control of your
environment.
Adding basic safety supplies is another easy and important step to take.
Making sure there's a flashlight in your desk with fresh batteries and a couple
bottles of water nearby would make a big difference in the event of a
catastrophe.
When you are away from work, keeping you and your family safe requires
awareness and preparation as well. Here are some things to think about:
· How
to get local alerts or warnings while away from home
· Evacuation
plans and alternate exits for the building you're in
· Supplies
necessary for temporary sheltering
So, practice Drop, Cover, and
Hold On.
SLCC
will participate in the Great Utah ShakeOut, Utah's largest earthquake
drill, on April 17 at 10:15 a.m.
Do you know who is in charge of this event at the college I could talk to for the newspaper?
