The Salt Lake City Public Library and the SLCC Community Writing Center will offer a writing mentoring program for local teens this year, from September 2012 - May 2013.
Salt Lake Teens Write connects underserved teens with volunteer mentors who use writing in their daily lives and professions. Together, student and mentor explore how writing opens different pathways to education and successful careers.
Mentoring teams meet for 1-2 hours a week and work together to produce a portfolio of writing based on the teen's interests. They also attend quarterly writing workshops with the other mentoring teams.
At year's end, all mentoring teams collaborate on an anthology publication and public reading to celebrate the year's creations.
