Gail Miller, Vice Chair of Salt Lake Community College’s Board of Trustees, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanities from Weber State University. In addition to receiving her honorary degree, Miller also provided the University’s commencement address.
“Gail Miller is an exceptional leader and role model in business and education,” SLCC President Cynthia A. Bioteau said. “She generously gives of her time, wisdom, and resources to promote healthy communities, grounded in education and free enterprise. Her work as co-chair of Salt lake Community College’s board of trustees embodies these traits. The newest deserved honor from Weber State University continues to magnify the remarkable woman she is.”
Miller, one of Utah’s most influential businesswomen and entrepreneurs, is the owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies and chair of the organization’s advisory board.
The Larry H. Miller group includes more than 75 businesses, including the Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees, Miller Motorsports Park, and Megaplex Cinemas. Miller is also the steward to several personal charitable initiatives supporting children’s health and educational programs.
First appointed to the SLCC Board of Trustees in 2004, Miller and her family are responsible for the largest single donation ever to a community college in the United States. The $26 million donation of land and building money was for a single building at SLCC’s Miller Campus—a campus entirely funded by the Miller family.
