Movin' on up!

The SLCC Men's and Women's Basketball teams each moved up in the latest Top 25 Polls released by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

SLCC Men's Basketball jumps four spots in latest poll
The SLCC Men (18-2, 6-0 SWAC) jumped four spots from No. 15 to No. 11 after picking up a close road win over in-state rival Snow College (15-5, 3-3 SWAC) on Saturday in Ephraim, UT. The Bruins trailed the Badgers 66-65 with under 10 seconds remaining, but a 16-foot jump shot made by sophomore forward JuWan Buchanan (Seattle, WA) with just 7.1 seconds left lifted the Bruins to their 14th straight victory.

The Bruins currently own the sixth longest win streak in NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball and will play the toughest two contests of this five-game road trip in Idaho this week. SLCC will square off with rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (15-6, 3-4 SWAC) on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Twin Falls, ID. The Bruins dismantled the Eagles the first time the teams met, winning easily 89-73 at Bruin Arena on Jan. 5.

Head Coach Todd Phillips and the Bruins will then make the trek to Coeur d'Alene, ID to square off with Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe No. 13-ranked North Idaho College (NIC) (19-3, 6-1 SWAC) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 6:00 p.m. MST (Coeur d'Alene is on Pacific time). The Bruins rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to stun the Cardinals 75-74 at Bruin Arena on Jan. 3 and are the only team in the SWAC to have beaten NIC so far this season.

SLCC has won six of its last eight contests and is currently in third place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) behind this week's opponents North Idaho College (NIC) and the College of Southern Idaho (CSI).

The Bruins will take on CSI (11-10, 5-2 SWAC) on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Twin Falls, ID. SLCC fell to the Eagles 54-39 at Bruin Arena on Jan. 5.
