Community meeting for new SLCC learning center in West Valley

Salt Lake Community College is inviting the public to a community meeting to talk about its new West Valley Learning Center May 2, 3-5 p.m. The meeting will be held at the West Valley Fitness Center, Rooms B & C, 5145 W. 3100 South, West Valley City. The SLCC West Valley Center, scheduled to open in fall 2015, will be a vibrant resource for the West Valley community.

Close to Granger, Kearns, Hunter, and Cyprus high schools, SLCC is collaborating with community, government, and business leaders to ensure that the West Valley Center meets the needs of the city and its residents. The College invites community members to meet with SLCC officials and enjoy light refreshments. During the meeting SLCC will share plans for the Center and gather the public’s feedback regarding SLCC programs and services to offer there. The Center will be located at 3460 S. 5600 West in West Valley City.

    Yeah this Community meeting for new SLCC learning center was just fabulous. I got the opportunity to attend this which was in a meeting room in West Valley. It was really an interesting and informative for me.

The Center for Prior Learning Receives an Honorable Mention

Today, SLCC's Credit for Prior Learning department received an Honorable Mention from the  Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL ) and the  Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education  for its intentional approach and for expanding student options to receive credit for prior learning.  Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)  allows students to obtain college credit for knowledge and skills acquired outside of the traditional academic environment. This is exceptionally beneficial for adult learners, who, according to CAEL, have a 17% higher chance of graduating compared to those adults who don’t earn credits through prior learning programs. The CPL department at SLCC was created in 2020 and since then the volume of students served has grown as the department continues to expand. Board of Higher Ed names Gregory F. Peterson 9th SLCC President

The Utah Board of Higher Education unanimously selected Gregory F. Peterson, Ed.D., as the ninth president of Salt Lake Community College today, following an extensive national search. Peterson will assume the position on July 1, 2024, and succeeds Deneece G.
