Masks Required On All Campuses Beginning January 8

The Salt Lake County Health Department today issued a public health order requiring everyone in Salt Lake County, regardless of vaccination status or past COVID-19 infection, to wear a proper mask when indoors and when queueing outdoors in public. Salt Lake Community College, in accordance with this order, will require the use of face coverings starting January 8 through 5 p.m. on February 7.

Masks should fit snugly and cover both the nose and mouth, and if possible, high-quality masks, such as KN95s, should be used rather than cloth masks. However, cloth masks are acceptable if no other options are available. If you need a mask while at the college, they are available on all campuses at the information/front desk. They are also available at Faculty Support Centers and the Admissions Hub. More information on face coverings can be found on SLCC’s COVID-19 webpage.

Salt Lake County also issued several exemptions to the order, including for those with medical conditions or disabilities that prevent wearing a mask. Exemptions to the mask mandate for students must be issued through SLCC’s Disability Resource Center (DRC). If you are a student and need an exemption, please contact the DRC at 801-957-4659. Employees needing an exemption must contact Carol Odeleye in Human Resources at 801-957-4722.

With COVID-19 cases exploding in Utah, getting vaccinated and wearing a mask while in public are the two best things we can do to prevent severe illness for ourselves and others. We appreciate your cooperation with this order and your commitment to keeping our campus safe and well.

Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction. Efficiency adds maturity to that childlike impulse, creating structures and pathways for accomplishment.  Andrew’s work has alwa...
